Into the Hive
A downloadable game for Windows
In a peculiar basement, eerie and obscure,
Lies a peculiar man, his presence unsure.
As your trembling hands betray your fear,
Strange creatures emerge, drawing near.
Seek your escape, or perish in your quest,
For in this cryptic labyrinth, there is no rest.
Description:
Into the Hive is an immersive first-person shooter horror game, crafted in the nostalgic style of the PlayStation 1 era. Initially developed as an entry for the 32-bit Jam 2021 in a 2 week timeframe.
Paying homage to classic horror games, Into the Hive melds old-school atmosphere and puzzles with innovative immersive-sim mechanics and visually advanced elements. Along the way, players will encounter menacing insectoid monsters and a mysterious man who adds intrigue to the narrative.
Warning:
Into the Hive is HARD. The game is designed with intentionally complex mechanics and a less intuitive control scheme that adds to its challenging nature. Survival is just the start; you'll need to learn the game inside out through hands-on experimentation. Prepare for a demanding journey into the hive.
REMEMBER TO READ THE IN-GAME NOTES. THEY PROVIDE THE ONLY WAY TO UNDERSTAND MECHANICS FOR NOW.

Many thanks to DaveFace, the developer of UnrealRetroShader.
Known issues:
- Spawned enemies are not respawned if weren't killed
- Saving can cause a black screen. (Current workaround is to restart the game, you will appear on your latest save, likely caused by a memory issue)
- It is possible to shoot when you are inside the inventory
- Quickslots are not closing on death (Current workaround is to select item and them click restart)

Hey, there is something that I've been having an issue with, all the enemies has been like charging too close to you when attacking, it really annoys me, also the Flies are really hard to get rid of, because I tried using the bug spray and they wont go away, plus I tried to run away, and they keep draining my health rapidly.
Also, I cannot manage to get to the end because I had 3 bullets left and there's 3 enemies and even if there's 6 bullets on the shelf, I can't reload fast enough, It feels like a complete Difficulty Spike.
stumbled across your page while looking for something. i remember when you used to make things for one of your games during lit. studies class while i drew weird stuff to pester you with, and thinking “i hope he’ll publish something one day.” keep going, and good luck. though i don’t know if you’ll see this comment, i can’t wait to see what you’ll do next. -S
Super Loved this one, kept me on my toes and the graphics dance on my nerves. Which always seems to keep my terrified. I will admit that I got frustrated towards the ending. But I loved the demo and can't wait for more!
Gave it a Let's Play and mid-recording it dawned on me, why there was so much familiar and nostalgic, I played something like this before, lmao. Criticism/feedback/gameplay below
Buen juego! algo complicado pero con paciencia y saliva...
I will be playing this live tomorrow 4/16 around 5-5:30 PM EST =D

Quick slots don't appear functional, no way to use items. Disappointed as the aesthetic is really cool and the game overall seemed promising.
Sorry for the confusion with this. We understand that the current inventory system in the game lacks a comprehensive explanation. In the future, we plan to introduce a tutorial or prologue to thoroughly teach players all the mechanics. For now, here's a clearer explanation:
To access your inventory, press the TAB key. You'll find quick slots at the bottom of the inventory in a 1x3 grid. Place items in these slots to access them. Press Q to open the quick slots, where your items will now appear at the bottom of the screen. Select your desired item using the mouse.
I loved how clunky and obscure this whole thing was! Id pay money for it!
i like the graphics!,could you please tell me how you managed to do them? ><
THINK GOOD creepy but so hard menu switch ..think need change
Did a playthrough on your game :)
Sorry, but would there be a gameplay or visual demonstration on how the inventory should work? I really tried and cannot seem to read the notes I have or use the revolver. I read the intro note but after trying for 5 minutes, just couldn't do it. Thanks!
EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm having issues with taking anything from the inventory and equiping/reading it. It says to put it in a quick slot, but it simply doesn't work.
Thx for bringing this to our attention. We know that this system is quite confusing, and we haven't implemented any proper guiding system yet as this version is just a demo. To open inventory, you use TAB; there are quick slots at the bottom; put your items there. Then, press Q to open quick slots where you can find your items at the bottom and select them with a mouse.
Hey there! Thank you so much for the assistance. I managed to play through it but not the whole experience, the checkpoint was a bit unforgiving haha.
I liked how due to the mechanics being a bit clunky around using your inventory itens/your gun, it made for panic inducing moments where you didn't feel that much in control.
Although I do believe the inventory system can be improved (and maybe the difficulty?), the aesthetics, presentation and scare factor are all SUPERB. Wish you all the best and will play/support whatever updates/games comes next!
Thanks a lot for your feedback. We will consider it while working on the next version.
